At The Olympic Body Shop we Intensely train with life's movements in life's ways to make you better at life. The Olympic Body Shop uses CrossFit's training methodology which applies constant variance to functional movements executed at high intensity. We all know that "constant variance," "functional movements," and "intensity" are broad terms that have different definitions depending on the person or industry defining them. The great thing about CrossFit is that they give specificity to these terms...
FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENTS are natural movements with everyday life motor recruitment patterns. The movements were not invented by a trainer and have been around forever. The squat (sit and stand), the deadlift (bend over and pick something up), the press (lift something over your head), run, jump, climb, throw... The list goes on and on. They are found everyday, everywhere in life. These movements are also compound, multi-joint movements which are essential to maintain independent living. At the point you can no longer sit and stand or pick something up from the ground (including yourself), you can no longer live alone. These movements help you get work done more effectively and efficiently compared to isolated movements, and they allow you to move more weight, further, faster.
CONSTANT VARIANCE uses differing rep schemes, timing, loads, combination of movements, among other modalities; it is continually changed, similar to everyday life. For example, you know that tomorrow you will sit down, stand up, pick things up and take some steps. What you don’t know is how many times, how heavy or when. Training this way helps you be prepared for the KNOWN and UNKNOWABLE.
INTENSITY is exactly equal to power. Power is measurable = (Force x Distance)/Time. Intensity is the catalyst for physical change. Think of it this way: GETTING RESULTS! So... MORE POWER OUTPUT = MORE FIT!
What does all of this really mean? It means you will NOT find stationary bikes and weight machines here. Instead you will find pull-up bars, kettlebells, barbells, and wide open space for running, jumping, squatting, and lifting. It means that all your workouts will include exercises that mimic movements performed in day-to-day life or your favorite sport. We focus on improving functional movements that are necessary and common in your daily activities.
It also means that you will never get bored. With our constantly varied programming you will rarely do the same workout twice or spend hours in the gym. Instead, each day a workout will be provided for you that is scalable to suit your fitness level. Because our workouts are rarely longer than 45 minutes, they can fit into even the busiest schedule.
The fitness program at The Olympic Body Shop aims to improve your capacity in the ten recognized fitness domains: cardio-respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. The result is comprehensive physical fitness!
Coach Glassman (founder of CrossFit) says all humans ranging from grandmas to Olympic athletes depend on the same movements and should train with these movements. The only difference is one end of the spectrum is looking for functional competence, while the other is looking for functional dominance.
The level of fitness you will achieve through CrossFit at The Olympic Body Shop is unrivaled by any other fitness program available. Living ”fit” opens up doors to many things you might want to do in life, extends the time you live independently, and ultimately makes your quality of life a whole lot better.
PLEASE NOTE: All members must attend TWO (2) INTRO Classes to become familiar with the functional movements of CrossFit and how CrossFit programming and the environment at The Olympic Body Shop operates. There is NO ADDITIONAL FEE for the Intro Classes, but they must be taken before joining the group workouts.
